AlexRenew Waterways Bike Tour With Alexandria Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee

June 29

Most avid cyclists would be quick to share stories of their rides in nature. And nothing is quite as nice as riding alongside our waterways, following the natural path that water takes as it travels through our communities. But there's another waterway that's equally important: the one that transports dirty water from homes and businesses to a water resource recovery facility, and then returned to its source. How would you like to take a ride that traces the path of your water to learn more about how Alexandria's water systems work?

AlexRenew and Alexandria Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) are teaming up to offer a waterways bike tour, a new twist on community bike rides. If you enjoy biking around Alexandria, or just want to get some exercise, the AlexRenew Waterways Bike Tour is a wonderful opportunity to do both while learning a little bit about our local water systems. It's also a great way to answer the question: what happens to your water after it goes down the drain?

The ride will take place on Saturday, June 29, from 9 - 11:00 am. Riders will follow a route that takes the path your water takes when it leaves your home or business, rolling past our Four Mile Run Pump Station and Education Center while learning about how AlexRenew cleans dirty water at our wastewater recovery facility before returning it to the Potomac River. This will also be a great opportunity to earn more about AlexRenew's RiverRenew program and how it will help improve local waterways while reducing wet weather overflows.
